Is professional teeth whitening safe?
Yes. When it is prescribed and supervised by a dentist, teeth whitening is a safe and well-established treatment. In the UK, whitening must be provided by a registered dental professional. Some people notice mild, temporary sensitivity, and your dentist will advise you on how to manage this.
What happens at the free whitening assessment?
Your dentist will check the health of your teeth and gums, talk through the shade you would like to achieve and confirm whether Boutique Whitening is suitable for you. If you go ahead, we take impressions so your custom whitening trays can be made.
How long does Boutique Whitening take to work?
Many patients notice a difference within the first few days, with the full result usually achieved over two to three weeks of wearing your trays as directed. Your dentist will give you a personalised plan.
How long do the results last?
Results are long-lasting. Over time, tea, coffee, red wine and smoking can cause teeth to re-stain, so we recommend occasional top-ups using your existing trays. Top-up whitening tubes are just £24 (usually £30) during November.
Will whitening work on crowns, veneers or fillings?
No. Whitening only lightens natural tooth enamel, so it will not change the colour of crowns, veneers, bridges or fillings. Your dentist will discuss this with you at your assessment if you have existing restorations.
Can anyone have teeth whitening?
Whitening can only be applied to healthy teeth and gums, so any decay or gum problems need treating first. A visit to the hygienist beforehand is also recommended to remove surface stains. It is not usually recommended during pregnancy or for under-18s.
