Inlays and Onlays

Serving patients throughout Caversham, Emmer Green and Reading

Inlays and Onlays are used to fix a tooth that has been damaged by decay or injury, when your tooth needs more support than a regular filling. Whereas a standard filling is applied directly into/onto your tooth and hardens in your mouth, Inlays and Onlays fit over your tooth’s biting surface and are made of a solid piece of porcelain or composite.

Inlays and Onlays are similar but differ in the amount of tooth they cover. An Inlay is placed inside a cavity on your tooth between cusps, whilst an Onlay sits slightly wider, covering one of more clusps of the tooth.

Depending on your individual case, we may recommend an Inlay or Onlay as an alternative to a dental crown, as they require less preparation of the remaining tooth enabling you to preserve as much healthy tooth as possible.

If you require a tooth restoration your Prospect Street Dental Practice dentist will provide you with all the options to help find the best solution for your individual needs.
